A Montessori-focused educational institution located at 13 Irone Avenue, Aguda, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. At McVera, we believe that every child has unique abilities, interests and potential.
"Our commitment: To provide a sound educational foundation that nurtures curiosity, responsibility, confidence and a lifelong love of learning."
McVera was established on 15 September 2005 by Rev. Dr./Mrs. Chidi Akahara. It began with five children and has subsequently grown to serve hundreds of pupils. Since its establishment, the school has pursued its commitment to improving the quality of children's education through structured instruction, a nurturing learning environment and an emphasis on the development of the whole child.
To lay a sound educational foundation that awakens every child's potential, nurtures individual aspirations and prepares children to lead meaningful and productive lives.
To remain an outstanding Christian Montessori school and a preferred educational community for parents and children, recognised for nurturing capable, responsible and confident learners.
McVera follows a child-centred Montessori-informed approach to education inspired by the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori.
Encouraging children to take increasing responsibility for appropriate learning activities and everyday tasks.
Helping pupils understand concepts through purposeful, hands-on learning.
Encouraging children to ask questions, explore their environment and develop problem-solving skills.
Promoting consideration for others, care for learning materials and responsible behaviour.
Supporting intellectual, social, emotional and personal growth alongside academic learning.
A child-centred learning experience designed to encourage participation, understanding and the gradual development of independence.
Teachers play a central role in the McVera learning experience. They guide pupils, encourage participation and help children develop their academic abilities and personal strengths. The school's published information identifies phonics, diction and Montessori methods among the areas in which its teachers have received professional training.
We also recognise the importance of communication between educators and parents in supporting pupils' progress and development.
McVera recognises the role technology can play in making educational resources more accessible and supporting effective teaching and learning. Our published description of its e-learning approach explains that digital resources, interactive materials, videos and other learning content can support pupils' educational experiences beyond the physical classroom.
When incorporated into classroom instruction, digital learning can help teachers present concepts in different ways, give pupils opportunities to revisit learning materials and support communication between the school and families.
"Our approach to technology is guided by an educational purpose: to support teaching, encourage participation and enrich children's learning experiences."
Developing Skills Beyond the Classroom. We believe that children's development is strengthened by opportunities to explore interests, work with others and participate in activities beyond formal lessons.
Exploring scientific thinking, practical ideas and problem-solving.
Developing technology awareness and appropriate digital skills.
Encouraging communication, reasoning, listening and confidence.
Introducing pupils to creativity, initiative and the development of ideas.
Encouraging reading, comprehension, vocabulary and a lasting interest in books.
Developing movement, coordination, creative expression and discipline.
Children learn best in an environment where they feel respected, encouraged and able to participate meaningfully. McVera's published philosophy emphasises a prepared, child-friendly environment that supports exploration, independence and focused learning.
We aim to foster positive relationships, good habits, mutual respect and responsible behaviour among pupils. We recognise the importance of cleanliness, appropriate supervision and communication with families in creating a supportive school community.
Our educational approach encourages children to develop confidence, respect for others, a sense of responsibility and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
